Know Your Rights
- If questioned by police, you must give your correct personal identification. After you have identified yourself, you do not have to answer any questions without your lawyer present.
- You have the right to remain silent — use it. Do not make statements to the police.
- Do not consent to a search of your car, your person, or your home.
- If you are pulled over while driving your car and your sobriety is under suspicion, do not do a field sobriety test — there is no penalty for refusing this. Do not admit to drinking. Be polite, decline field sobriety tests, and ask to speak to your lawyer.
- If you are arrested, call your lawyer immediately.
